Pandemic Kitchen Experiment Becomes Commercial Product Whipzi Flavored Powdered Sugar, a new ingredient combining flavor, color, and sweetness in a single powdered-sugar base, aims to streamline recipe development for bakeries and foodservice operations. The product originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when founder Angela Powell began experimenting with flavor incorporation in frostings, glazes, and whipped toppings. "While making that cake, we ran into a frustrating problem: adding flavor to frostings, glazes, and whipped toppings wasn't as easy as it seemed. The results were often inconsistent, and figuring out the right ratios to maintain texture and taste was surprisingly technical," Powell said. After months of kitchen testing, Powell developed a formula intended to eliminate texture-and-consistency variables that plague traditional flavoring methods. The product positions itself as an all-in-one ingredient that eliminates separate steps for sweetness, flavor, and color addition.

Why It Matters

For bakeries and beverage operations, ingredient simplification directly affects labor costs and recipe consistency. Whipzi's single-step approach could reduce formulation time and minimize batch-to-batch variation—two persistent pain points in small and mid-sized bakery operations.
