Flavor manufacturer T. Hasegawa USA has released a "2026 Summer Flavors" report tied to the FIFA World Cup and America's 250th anniversary, predicting which taste profiles will drive menu innovation and retail offerings this summer. The report examines "Global Cuisine & Regional Pride," linking flavors to countries participating in the tournament and regional favorites shaping U.S. food culture during the dual celebration.
The 10 Predicted Flavors Five sweet profiles include Firework (cherry, lime, and blue raspberry), Prickly Pear (cactus fruit), Sweetcorn (nutty-sweet carnival style), White Peach (honeyed, delicate), and Blackberry (tangy, versatile). More than half of U.S. candy and dessert eaters have already tried sweetcorn-flavored treats, while 46% of consumers have tried white peach in non-alcoholic beverages. Five savory entries lead with Charcoal, described as "the essence of summer grilling, delivering a smoky, complex char that elevates meats, vegetables, and seafood." The report notes that 77% of U.S. consumers like to try new flavors while grilling, and 34% research ways to enhance food quality when grilling. Other savory flavors include Guajillo (Mexican chili with sweet heat), Yakitori (Japanese grilled chicken with soy glaze), Spicy Coconut (chili-infused tropical profile drawing from South Asian, Brazilian, and Jamaican traditions), and White Miso (fermented Japanese seasoning for umami depth). Guajillo and Yakitori directly reference World Cup participants, cementing the report's connection to the tournament. Nearly half of global consumers have sought intense, bold flavors, per the report's research.
