Rich Products Corporation's f'real brand is moving into functional frozen beverages with a new Protein Smoothie line built on real milk protein isolate, delivering 20 grams of protein and fewer than 250 calories per serving — a formulation spec that positions the line squarely at the intersection of indulgence and better-for-you convenience. The two debut SKUs, Tropical Mango and Peanut Butter Banana with Reese's Peanut Butter, are slated for national retail and foodservice distribution in early 2027 and were previewed at the 2026 NACS Show in Las Vegas.

Formulation & Functional Claims

Both Protein Smoothie varieties are formulated without artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners — a clean-label positioning that aligns with ongoing reformulation pressure across the frozen beverage category. The protein source is real milk protein isolate, a high-efficiency dairy fraction that supports a smooth, creamy mouthfeel without the grittiness associated with some plant-based or whey concentrate alternatives. Fruit inclusion is real rather than flavored, supporting a natural-claim narrative relevant to convenience store and foodservice buyers evaluating clean-label SKUs for their freezer sets. The Peanut Butter Banana flavor carries a co-branded Reese's Peanut Butter mark, licensed from The Hershey Company, adding a licensed flavor equity play to the protein platform. Operators should note the peanut inclusion will require allergen statement updates on in-store signage and menu boards consistent with FALCPA labeling requirements.

The new smoothies will be merchandised alongside f'real's existing Strawberry Banana Smoothie, which is positioned as a plant-based option and carries an excellent source of vitamin C claim — giving operators a three-SKU smoothie set that spans plant-based, fruit-forward, and high-protein functional positioning.

Platform & Operator Context

The Protein Smoothies are delivered through f'real's patented blend-it-yourself (BIY) Blend n' Sip platform, in which a frozen cup is placed into an in-store blender and finished to order in approximately one minute. The format is relevant to ingredient and equipment buyers because it effectively decouples the formulation (frozen cup, supplied by f'real) from the finishing step (blending, performed in-store), creating a quasi-cold-chain co-manufacturing model where the supplier controls the ingredient matrix and the operator controls only the dispense point.

Supporting the product launch, f'real also previewed the B8, its next-generation self-serve blender. The B8 features a larger HD touchscreen, cup-recognition technology for more consistent blend execution, and an expanded blend temperature range — all changes that reduce operator downtime and improve batch-to-batch consistency. The B8 will be available for order to convenience store and foodservice partners in 2027. For convenience channel category managers, the blender upgrade is significant: improved uptime translates directly to reduced out-of-stock incidents on a system where the equipment is the point of sale.

Market Positioning

Functional frozen beverages remain an underdeveloped segment relative to the broader protein ingredient and fortification market, where milk protein isolate demand continues to grow as formulators seek high-protein-density dairy fractions that perform well in cold, blended applications. f'real's move brings a 20-gram protein SKU into more than 17,000 North American locations — convenience stores, colleges and universities, theaters, and military bases — a channel footprint that most functional beverage brands cannot access through traditional retail distribution.

The launch is further supported by a full packaging redesign rolling out in January 2027, featuring a bolder color palette, icon-based callouts for key attributes (real milk, real fruit, protein content), and clearer visual differentiation between the Milkshake and Smoothie product lines. For frozen and refrigerated beverage category buyers, the redesign is intended to improve fixture navigation and reduce consumer confusion at the freezer door — a practical consideration as the smoothie set expands from one to three SKUs.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for products that deliver both indulgence and function," said Megan Grinstead, Vice President of Customer and Consumer Marketing at Rich Products Corporation. "These innovations help us deliver more engaging consumer experiences, greater operational confidence for our customers and a strong foundation for future innovation across the brand."

f'real foods operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rich Products Corporation, which reports annual sales exceeding $5.8 billion across foodservice, retail, and in-store bakery channels globally.
