Consumer Demand Drives Portfolio Expansion
Dawn Foods is expanding its Dawn Balance Cleaner Ingredients portfolio across mixes, fillings, icings and donut glazes, the company announced June 6. The expansion, showcased at IDDBA 2026 in Orlando, represents the bakery ingredients supplier's broadened response to what it describes as accelerating consumer interest in cleaner label products.
The new offerings include cake, crème cake, donut and brownie mixes; eight filling varieties from apple to cream cheese; buttercreme, flat and fudge icings; and thin and medium-thick set donut glazes. Beyond its manufactured products, Dawn has also sourced cleaner ingredients solutions from partner suppliers across fats and oils, cocoa, eggs, fruits and vegetables, nuts, emulsions, flavors, decorations and inclusions.
Market Context
According to Dawn Foods' 2025 North America Bakery Trends Survey, 58% of consumers actively seek cleaner label baked goods. Research from ATLAS and Ingredion found that 61% of North American consumers are willing to pay a premium of 20% or more for cleaner label products, while 78% believe tighter restrictions are needed around artificial dyes.
Dawn defines cleaner ingredients products as formulated without artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, FD&C dyes, titanium dioxide, synthetic colors and Class II-IV caramel colors, while utilizing Mass Balance palm oil ingredients.
Company Strategy
"Consumer expectations around ingredients continue to evolve, and our customers need solutions that help them respond with confidence," said Sarah Hickey, Vice President of Marketing – North America, Dawn Foods. "At Dawn, we are committed to our customers' success by providing cleaner ingredients solutions that deliver the performance, consistency and quality bakers expect. By expanding our portfolio across multiple categories, we're helping customers create products that meet changing consumer preferences while maintaining the operational excellence and product quality that drive business growth."
The company also offers customized solution development for bakeries with specific ingredient standards and product requirements.
Why It Matters
With nearly six in 10 consumers actively seeking cleaner label options and willingness to pay premiums, bakery operators face pressure to reformulate popular products. Dawn's expanded portfolio and sourced alternatives reduce development barriers, allowing smaller and mid-sized bakeries to compete on cleaner ingredients without investing in custom R&D.
