Two New Proteins Target Rising Demand Crespel & Deiters, a German plant-based ingredients supplier, has launched two high-protein crisps designed to help manufacturers formulate functional snacks and bars with enhanced nutritional profiles. Lory® IsoCrisp Fava Protein delivers 50.5g protein per 100g in 12mm round crisps suited for chocolate-coated bites and confectionery. Lory® IsoCrisp Wheat Protein provides 65.4g protein per 100g in smaller 4mm particles for bars, cereals, and muesli applications.

Market Drivers Both ingredients address two industry pressures: rising milk protein costs and consumer demand for plant-based, soy-free formulations. According to Innova Market Insights data cited by the company, around 60 percent of consumers globally are actively seeking higher protein intake without compromising taste or texture. The extruded crisps maintain consistent particle size and stable texture, delivering what the company describes as a "clearly defined, anticipated crunch" while allowing easy integration into existing recipes.

Technical Flexibility "With the new Lory® IsoCrisp Fava and Wheat Protein crisps, we are expanding our portfolio with solutions that combine plant-based and wheat-based protein sources with real functional value for production," says Philipp Deiters, CSO Food at Crespel & Deiters. "It gives manufacturers a highly flexible tool to adapt their products to market demand quickly and without complication." Crespel & Deiters, a family-owned company in its sixth generation, produces the range using extrusion technology and operates an in-house R&D lab for customer formulation support.

Why It Matters

For operators and manufacturers in active nutrition and snacking, these ingredients offer a cost-effective route to boost protein claims while hedging exposure to volatile milk protein pricing—particularly valuable as plant-based positioning remains competitive in protein bars and functional confectionery.
