The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has named 15 companies to its 8th Annual Real California Milk Excelerator, the industry's most visible accelerator dedicated exclusively to value-added dairy innovation. Running in partnership with VentureFuel, the 2026 cohort reflects formulation trends that Innova Market Insights identifies as the dominant forces reshaping the dairy aisle: functional protein, gut-health positioning, convenience formats, and occasion-driven global flavors.

Since 2021, Excelerator alumni have generated nearly $60 million in combined brand sales across the dairy category — a figure that underscores the program's commercial relevance to ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturers, and retailers tracking emerging dairy SKU velocity. This year marks the first time CMAB has formally bifurcated the program into two parallel tracks: a Growth-Stage Excelerator for eight established brands and an early-stage Incubator for seven pre-scale concepts.

Growth-Stage Cohort

The eight growth-stage companies illuminate the application territories drawing the most R&D investment in fluid dairy and cultured formats. Secret Creamery (Las Vegas) formulates super-premium ice cream around a proprietary four-strain probiotic blend with an AAPI-influenced flavor architecture — a direct play on the gut-health and global-flavor vectors that are reshaping the frozen novelty set. Yah Yah Yah (Denver) brings a clean-label RTD iced latte to market with real milk, real honey, and 5 grams of prebiotic fiber per serve, targeting the functional beverage crossover consumer with no artificial sweeteners or preservatives. Tulsi Foods (Anaheim) produces clean-label paneer using traditional methods and zero additives, positioning the product for crossover from the ethnic dairy section into the mainstream dairy case — a channel migration with significant implications for retail planogram strategies.

Hartman Strawberry/Acai Protein Drink (Ontario, Calif.) addresses a persistent supply-chain challenge in the high-protein dairy segment: shelf life extension in drinkable yogurt. The brand's freeze/thaw format delivers protein and gut-health benefits with an extended shelf life, reducing cold-chain dependency. Maazah (Minneapolis) reformats yogurt as a bold Afghan-inspired dip with clean-label herbs, broadening the usage occasion for cultured dairy ingredients beyond breakfast. RoseBud Ice Cream (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) delivers soft-serve in a mess-free pouch — a convenience-format innovation relevant to foodservice distributors and impulse-channel buyers alike.

Incubator Track and Prize Structure

The seven early-stage Incubator brands span an equally diverse set of dairy ingredient applications: labneh-based products (Yaza Foods), freeze-dried cheesecake snacks (Freezcake Snacks), cottage cheese-based formats (Mac Squares), cultured dairy ice cream (Spun), a ready-to-drink protein chai (Kadak), a dairy-based latte formulated for healthcare workers (Monava), and miniature dairy concepts (Teiny). These concepts represent an upstream indicator of where dairy ingredient developers — including cultured cultures suppliers, whey protein isolate producers, and clean-label stabilizer manufacturers — should expect demand signals to concentrate over the next two to three years.

The program culminates in December at a pitch event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where four finalists will be selected to receive $30,000 each in marketing support. Those four brands will then compete over a 12-month in-market performance period for a $100,000 grand prize to be awarded in 2027. The December event will also announce the $100,000 winner from the 2025 Excelerator finalist group.

"After eight years, we're doubling down on commercialization, helping companies using the Real California Milk seal to scale their businesses, strengthen their path to market and navigate an increasingly challenging CPG environment," said Bob Carroll, Chief Executive Officer of the CMAB. For ingredient suppliers and contract manufacturers seeking early-stage brand partners in the better-for-you dairy space, the Excelerator roster functions as a curated pipeline of innovation-stage customers worth tracking. Coverage of adjacent dairy ingredient developments is available in /dairy-ingredients and the broader /functional-ingredients beat on Ingredients Press.
