Resealable Can Technology Moves Closer to Market
Canovation and CANPACK have formalized a collaboration to advance CanReseal®—a resealable aluminum can-end system—toward commercial readiness and pilot-scale deployment.
The partnership combines Canovation's proprietary resealable can-end technology with CANPACK's global manufacturing expertise and supply-chain reach. Under the agreement, the companies will complete remaining development activities required to position CanReseal® for pilot-line implementation.
"We are excited to formalize our relationship with CANPACK as we move into the final stages of commercial readiness and validation," said Jeff Grajewski, Chief Operating Officer of Canovation. "This collaboration allows us to align closely with a global manufacturing leader as we prepare for pilot production and commercialization."
Bridging Development to Production
CanReseal® is designed to enable resealability while leveraging existing aluminum can manufacturing and filling infrastructure—a critical requirement for commercial viability. The system is intended to offer enhanced consumer convenience and portability while supporting circular economy initiatives.
Canovation will continue working with Stolle Machinery Company LLC, its long-standing development partner, which provides engineering, tooling, and manufacturing equipment support as the technology advances.
Path Forward
The companies expect to complete development activities in the near term and will work collaboratively to establish pilot operations as a foundation for future commercial deployment. Canovation is actively engaging strategic and financial partners to support the next phase of commercialization.
"This relationship reflects our continued commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable packaging technologies," said Fabio Hees, Group Commercial Officer at CANPACK. "We look forward to working with Canovation to prepare CanReseal® for commercialization."
About the Technology
CanReseal® is designed to enable:
- Resealable aluminum beverage packaging
- Compatibility with existing can manufacturing and filling infrastructure
- Circular economy and sustainability initiatives
- Enhanced consumer convenience and portability
Canovation's development has been supported through the 100+ Accelerator, a global innovation program backed by major consumer goods companies, as well as engagements with REMADE Institute, a U.S. public-private partnership advancing circular economy technologies.
CANPACK, part of Giorgi Global Holdings, employs approximately 8,500 people worldwide with operations in 15 countries and manufactures aluminum beverage cans, glass bottles, and metal closures for food and beverage industries.
Why It Matters
A commercially viable resealable aluminum can could reshape beverage packaging economics by offering consumers convenience comparable to plastic while maintaining aluminum's recyclability and production efficiency. For operators, compatibility with existing can-making equipment means potential adoption without significant capital expenditure—a key factor in whether the technology gains industry traction.
